LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pacific softball team wrapped up its California trip the same way it started – a two-game series sweep.
After blowing out Occidental 13-1 Sunday morning in game one, the Boxers took game two 3-1 to finish the road trip with a 5-1 record.
Game 1
Trailing 1-0, Pacific broke the game open with four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take an 8-1 lead. The Boxers added five more runs in the seventh.
Pacific recorded 17 hits and took advantage of five Occidental errors.
Kayla Kodani went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and three RBIs.
Kimberly Ray was 2-for-3 with a double and scored three runs.
Rylie Kihara was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Jordan Ingram,
Ava Hlavacek and
Caitlyn Gieser also had multiple hits in the victory.
Pitching in relief,
Kiara Baba tossed 4 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and recording five strikeouts to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Game 2
Pacific took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning and then leaned on its pitching staff to sweep the series.
Karlie Espinoza earned the win, holding Occidental to just two hits and one run over 4 innings.
Alissa Hermansen then shut out the Tigers over the final 3 innings to pick up the save.
At the plate,
Chloe Knepp was 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Ray also had an RBI triple.
Libby Hardee was 2-for-3 with a stolen base and run scored.
Next: The Boxers open Northwest Conference play on Saturday, March 14 at Puget Sound.
