Boxers Light Up the Electric Forest Open

Portland, Ore. – Pacific Track and Field competed in two outdoor meets this past weekend. On Friday, March 20th, some of the Boxers competed at the Pacific Northwest Invite at Oregon State University. On Saturday, March 21st, the Boxers competed at Lewis and Clark College. Over the two days of competition, there were three All-Time Top Ten performances and thirteen Northwest Conference championships qualifiers.

Top Performers

On Friday in Corvallis, freshman Ali Heinly competed in the women's 3000m Steeplechase. Heinly's time of 11:17.26 was a 24.44 second personal record that rose her from #6 to #2 on the All-Time Top Ten list.
Building on Heinly's strong performance, head cross country and distance coach Riley Stewart said, "Friday night at OSU, we had some great performances. The Boxers put themselves in positions to run great times, and it paid off! I've never seen someone close a Steeplechase race as fast as Ali did."

Senior Ally Hammond came off the NCAA Division III Indoor Nationals ready to compete in the outdoor season. In Saturday's competition, Hammond ran the Women's 200m. Hammond ran a new personal record of 24.64, which qualified her for the Northwest Conference championships and broke her previous school record.

The Boxers also had three women qualify in the Women's 100m. First was Ally Hammond with a time of 12.27. Next was freshman Nichole Goodwin with a time of 13.22, and then sophomore Maya Kaneshiro with a time of 13.26.

In the Women's Pole Vault, sophomore Holly Gay jumped 2.98m. Gay's jump moves her to #8 on the All-Time Top Ten list. Freshman Kayla Balandran also competed in the Women's Pole Vault. Balandran jumped 2.68m and qualified for the Northwest Conference championships. This means all three of the women vaulters: Cadence Schedlbauer, Holly Gay, and Kayla Balandran will be representing the Boxers at the Northwest Conference track and field championships in May.

"I'm happy with the way everyone went out and competed today," said head coach Ryan Huntersimms. "Nothing brings us coaches more joy than seeing the excitement of our athletes qualifying and achieving personal bests!"
