SPOKANE, Wash. – After scoring just one run through the first 12 innings, Pacific's bats finally woke up.
The Boxers erupted for eight runs in the top of the sixth inning in Game 2 to defeat Whitworth, 8-5, Saturday afternoon, salvaging a split in the Northwest Conference doubleheader after dropping the opener, 5-1.
Game 1: Whitworth 5, Pacific 1
Rylie Kihara doubled and later scored the tying run on an RBI single by Jordan Ingram in the top of the third inning. Whitworth quickly responded with a run in the bottom half of the frame and added three more in the fourth to pull away.
Libby Hardee went 2-for-3 in the loss, while Ava Hlavacek doubled to lead off the seventh inning.
Game 2: Pacific 8, Whitworth 5
Kayla Kodani went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored as the Boxers snapped a six-game losing streak.
Trailing 3-0, Pacific broke through with an eight-run sixth inning. After tying the game at 3-3, Hlavacek put the Boxers in front with a two-run double down the left-field line, driving in Chloe Knepp and Ryanne Yoshimura.
Ingram finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Hardee went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a stolen base.
Alissa Hermansen earned the win, allowing six hits and two earned runs over five innings.
Next: Pacific concludes the four-game NWC series Sunday at Whitworth. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
