Dani Hammond Places 8th at the Northwest Conference Multis Championship

Newberg, Ore. - Three Boxers traveled to George Fox University on April 13th and 14th to compete at the Northwest Conference Championship Multis. Over the course of the two days of competition, senior Kamron Shields competed in the Decathlon while senior Courtney Tiernan and sophomore Dani Hammond competed in the Heptathlon. The top eight finishers for both the Decathlon and Heptathlon were the first events to be scored for the Northwest Conference Track and Field teams, for the upcoming Northwest Conference Championships on April 25th and 26th. 

Top Performers

In the Women's Heptathlon, sophomore Dani Hammond led off day one in the 100m Hurdles. Hammond ran a time of 17.09, scoring 586 points. Following the hurdles, she competed in the High Jump. In the High Jump, Hammond tied her personal record with a jump of 1.57m, which added 701 points to her score. After Hammond competed in the Shot Put, she again tied her personal record with a throw of 8.88m, adding 456 to her score. The final event of the first day was the 200m. Hammond ran 27.75, adding 651 points to her total score.

On the second day of competition, Hammond opened up in the Long Jump. Her jump of 4.65m added 466 points to her total score. Following the Long Jump, Hammond threw a new personal record of 31.13m in the Javelin, adding 498 to her total score. The final event of the Heptathlon is the 800m. Hammond ran 2:50.77, which added 456 to her total score.

Hammond's final combined score was 3814 points, which not only is her new Heptathlon personal record but also placed her 8th overall in the Northwest Conference Championships Heptathlon. Hammond also moved to #4 on Pacific's All-Time Top Ten list in the Heptathlon.

Senior Courtney Tiernan also competed in the Women's Heptathlon. On the first day of competition, Tiernan opened up with a time of 16.09 in the 100m Hurdles, which scored her 703 points. Following in the High Jump, Tiernan jumped 1.42m, adding 534 to her total score. Following, in the Shot Put, she threw 9.24m, adding 480 points to her score. For the final event on day one, Tiernan ran 28.94 in the 200m, which added 559 to her total score.  

Opening up on the second day of competition, Tiernan jumped 4.39m in the Long Jump, adding 401 points to her total score. Tiernan's final event of the day was the Javelin, where she threw 26.63m, which added 413 points to her final score.
Tiernan ended in 15th place overall in the competition with a combined score of 3090 points.

Up Next 

The Boxers Track and Field team will split into two meets this upcoming weekend. On Saturday, April 18th, The Boxers will travel to Portland, Oregon, to compete at Lewis and Clark University in the Larry Byerly Invite.

Also on April 18th, Senior Ally Hammond will go to Eugene, Oregon, to compete at the Oregon Open in the Women's 100m Hurdles.
