Johnson continued the tradition of national champions in wrestling at Pacific, winning the 1990 NAIA crown at 134 pounds. A two-time NAIA District II champion and 1990 NAIA District II Male Athlete of the Year, Johnson earned NAIA All-American honors in 1989 after placing fourth at 134 pounds. His effort helped lead the Boxers to a 10th place team finish at the national meet. In his two-year career, Johnson compiled a record of 69-7-2. Johnson returned to Pacific as head coach from 1997-2002, leading the Boxers to three NCAA Great Lakes Region championships and the 2000 Northwest Wrestling Conference dual meet and tournament championships.
