MEDFORD, Ore. - Pacific came up on the short end of a pair of men's wrestling matches on Thursday afternoon at the Medford Armory, falling to Simon Fraser 32-15 and to host Southern Oregon, 49-6.
The matches were a part of the Doc Welton Classic. The Raiders and Clan also wrestled each other, and the Southern Oregon women defeated Pacific, a 29-5 Raider win.
Against the NCAA Division II Clan, Pacific won just one match on the mat.
Tyler Howe stopped SFU's Alexander Berfanger, 4-1. Howe, the sophomore from Cascade High School, won the match at 174 pounds to improve to 6-4 on the season.
The Clan won five of the six contested matches.
Southern Oregon, ranked No. 10 in the latest NAIA poll, improved to 6-1 with the victory over the Boxers. Pacific is now 0-3 on the season in dual meets.
The Boxer lone win came at 197 pounds where
Gunner Sigado pinned Sabir Rasulov. Sigado improved to 3-5 on the season. Howe also nearly had two wins on the day, narrowly losing to Reed Tennyson at 174 by the count of 5-4.
Next up for the Boxer men is the Wartburg Desert Duals, held in Las Vegas on Monday, Dec. 21. The Boxers will wrestle four matches in one day, all against some of the top teams in NCAA Division III.
