ResultsFOREST GROVE, Ore.--Pacific won all three doubles matches and rolled to six straight set singles wins to capture a 9-0 team victory over Pacific Lutheran in men's tennis action on Saturday afternoon on the indoor courts at the Holce Tennis Courts.
It was the Northwest Conference opener for both teams. The Boxers are now 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference action. Pacific Lutheran is 0-1 in both.
The Boxers captured the doubles victories first in front of the sizable crowd, who had the new scoreboard to help them keep track of the action.
Reuben Mulhern and
Josh Bernstein won with relative ease at No. 1 (8-3) and
Brennan Faith and
Griffin Fraser did the same at third doubles (8-1). At No. 2,
Nyles Moisson and
Ben Ryweck matched up in a tight battle with PLU's Jeremy Marsh and Marcelo Hernandez-Gamez, with the Boxer duo winning the last two games to claim the 9-7 final.
In singles play, no Boxer game up more than three games in the sweep. Faith was the winner at No. 1 (6-0, 6-3), Mulhern at No. 2 (6-3, 6-2), Bernstein at three (6-1, 6-0),
Sage Katayama at No. 4 (6-2, 6-1), Moisson as five (6-2, 6-1) and Ryweck at No. 6 (6-1, 6-3).
It was a solid performance today by our guys," said Boxer head coach
Brian Jackson. "We had some nerves early for some of the guys who haven't gotten to start before, but once they caught their stride, they were in control.
"Really good effort, and great to get some experience for our depth guys."
The Boxers will return to Holce on Sunday at noon to host Linfield.
