ResultsFOREST GROVE, Ore. — The Pacific men's tennis team remained unbeaten in Northwest Conference play (2-0) and moved to 4-1 overall with a 8-1 win over Linfield on Sunday afternoon at the indoor Holce Tennis Courts.
Linfield, who opened NWC play on Saturday with a 5-4 win over Puget Sound, fell to 2-4 overall and to 1-1 in conference action.
The Boxers swept the doubles and won the first five singles matches to end any drama early as to which team would claim the team win.
Oscar Wight and
Chris Dalton had their hands full but prevailed at No. 1 doubles, topping Linfield's Ben McNair and Carter Pentz, 9-7.
Clark Wininger and
Josh Bernstein won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles and
Sage Katayama teamed with
Wesley Upton to capture the victory at third doubles, 8-4.
In singles, the first five Boxers all won in straight sets. Wininger won at No. 1, Wight at No. 2, Dalton at three, Bernstein at four and Katayama at No. 5. Upton lost a tight battle at No. 6, falling to Jake Mangan 7-6 (8-6), 6-1.
"We had a great day today," said Boxer assistant coach
Pete Yellico. "Our energy was really high all across the board. We got off to a great start in doubles and it set the tone for the rest of the match. Shout out to Oscar and Chris for recording their first #1 doubles win. Wininger also played a great at #1 singles, he moved really well and played extremely solid and focused the entire match."
Pacific will continue a four-match home stand with matches next Friday against Whitworth (4 p.m.) and Puget Sound on Saturday (1 p.m.).
