ResultsTACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific men's tennis team remained unbeaten in conference play with an 8-1 win over Puget Sound on Saturday morning at the UPS Tennis Pavilion.
The Boxers moved to 9-1 overall and to 7-0 in Northwest Conference play. The Loggers fell to 0-7 in 2016 and to 0-6 in league matches.
Pacific will play one more match today on the road, taking on NCAA Division I Seattle University at 5 pm tonight.
With the Seattle match looming and a tough conference match-up with Lewis & Clark on the schedule tomorrow, head coach
Brian Jackson mixed up the singles line-up a bit. That's where UPS earned their only win of the day when Joe McRoberts edged
Chris Dalton at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-5.
Otherwise,
Josh Bernstein,
Nyles Moisson and
Sage Katayama won easily at two, three and four singles respectively. Pacific's
Ben Ryweck won a hard fought battle over Chet Selis at No. 5 (3-6, 6-4, 10-5) and Wes Upton overcame Chris Severt at No. 6 by the count of 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.
In doubles,
Brennan Faith and
Clark Wininger won at No. 1 (8-3),
Oscar Wight and Dalton triumphed at No. 2 (8-5) and
Reuben Mulhern and Bernstein won at No. 3 (8-5).
"It was a good start to the day, with a solid win over a scrappy UPS team," Jackson said. "We played solid in doubles, and were able to get some new guys into singles play.
"We had dominant wins by 2-4, a great fight by Wes at 6, and gutsy win by Ben at 5, coming back to force and win a 10-pointer against a deceptively good player."
