ResultsMcMINNVILLE, Ore. — Pacific made a clean sweep of Linfield, winning all six singles matches in straight sets while white washing the Wildcats in doubles play as well, 9-0.
The win improved Pacific's record to 7-1 on the season and to 5-0 in the Northwest Conference. Linfield is now 2-7 and 1-4.
"It was a solid win today for the men," said Boxer head coach
Brian Jackson. "Really proud of how our guys competed when the sets became tight. We showed some good focus, and came away with the sweep."
In double play,
Reuben Mulhern and
Josh Bernstein combined to shutout Linfield's No. 1 team, 8-0. At No. 2 doubles,
Ben Ryweck and
Nyles Moisson won 8-4. The third doubles match turned out to be the most entertaining of the day as
Clark Wininger and
Griffin Fraser edged Linfield's Carter Pentz and Charlie Farrenkopf, 9-8 (7-3).
Wininger won at first singles (6-3, 6-2), Mulhern at No. 2 (6-1, 6-1), Bernstein at three (6-0, 6-2), Moisson at fourth (6-4, 6-1) and Ryweck triumped at No. 5 (6-1, 6-1). Fraser and Liam Spearnak had a battle at No. six singles with Fraser claiming the 6-3, 7-5 win.
"Really good play from Griff, getting his first win in his first start in singles," Jackson added.
Pacific will return home on Sunday to host Willamette at the Holce Tennis Complex. Start time is noon.
