ResultsFOREST GROVE, Ore. — The Pacific men's tennis team moved to 6-0 in Northwest Conference play and won its eighth straight match overall with a 9-0 victory over Willamette on Sunday afternoon at the Holce Tennis Complex.
The Boxers, ranked tenth in the west region and 39th in NCAA Division III rankings, are now 8-1 on the year. In dropping the indoor match, the Bearcats are now 1-4 on the season and 1-3 in the Northwest Conference.
Pacific swept the doubles play by 8-3 or 8-4 scores and won all the singles matches in straight sets.
Brennan Faith and
Clark Wininger remained undefeated (5-0) in dual match play, winning at No. 1 doubles, 8-3.
Chris Dalton and
Oscar Wight won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles and
Wesley Upton teamed with
Sage Katayama to triumph on court three, 8-3. The Upton/Katayama duo is 3-0 this year.
In singles play, No. 19 regionally ranked Faith improved to 8-3 this spring with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Aaron Schechter. Wight won the hardest fought match of the day at No. 2, edging Willamette's Blake Brash 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). Wight is now 6-2 in 2016.
Dalton won at No. 3 (6-0, 2-1, retired), and freshman
Nyles Moisson improved to 6-2 on the year with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4. Katayama won on court five (6-0, 6-1) and Upton was the winner at No. 6 (6-0, 6-4).
"We had a solid performance today," said Boxer assistant coach
Pete Yellico. "Our intensity was at a high level from the first ball struck and maintained throughout the entirety of the match."
The Boxers will be on the road next weekend, taking on Puget Sound and Seattle University on March 12 before tackling Lewis & Clark on Sunday in Portland.
