FOREST GROVE, Ore.--Pacific owned the back courts in singles and won two of three doubles matches to post a 6-3 win over George Fox in men's tennis action on Saturday at the Holce Tennis Complex.
The Boxers improved to a sizzling 16-3 overall record and to 10-1 in Northwest Conference play. George Fox falls to 7-10 on the year and to 5-6 in league matches.
On Senior Day and the final home match of the season, Boxer senior
Chris Dalton won at No. 5 singles and Ben Rywick teamed with
Reuben Mulhern to triumph at No. 3 doubles. Dalton cruised to victory (6-3, 6-1) while Rywick/Mulhern won 8-5.
Unfortunately, fellow Pacific senior
Brennan Faith dropped matches at No. 1 doubles and singles.
"I was really proud of our seniors on their day today," said Pacific head coach
Brian Jackson. "It was a tough battle as we expected, but we came to play and did well enough to get the win. Our guys really had a great home season, and it was good to end it with a win."
Pacific won on courts 4-6 in singles, which of course included Dalton's win at No. 5. Mulhern also won in straight sets on court four (6-2 6-3) and
Josh Bernstein did the same at No. 6 (6-4, 6-2).
Clark Wininger won in rapid fashion on court two (6-1, 6-2), improving to 16-2 on the season in singles play.
Oscar Wight lost a tough one at No. 3, and Faith dropped a heartbreaker after winning the first set, 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 to No. 38 nationally ranked Spencer Watanabe.
Wight and Dalton won at No. 2 doubles (8-4) while Faith and Wininger lost at No. 1 doubles, 8-4. It was only the fourth loss all season for that duo (11-4).
Pacific will wrap up the regular season on Sunday, traveling to Salem to take on Willamette. Start time is noon.
