Boxers Fall to Pacific Lutheran, 58-48

Box Score Pacific Lutheran scored the first eight points of the game en route to a 58-48 win over the Pacific University men's basketball team on Friday in Tacoma.

The Boxers (9-8, 3-6 NWC) were led by junior J.B. Ewell (pictured; Portland, Ore.), who had 18 for his third-straight game in double figures. Freshman Davis Holly (Bend, Ore.) added 10 points and four assists to complement a stingy defensive effort in the defeat for Pacific.

The Lutes (9-9, 4-5 NWC) were led by Kyle Sawtell, who came off the bench to hit five 3-pointers en route 17 points to lead four Pacific Lutheran players in double figures. He was joined by starters Joshua Baird, who added 11 points; plus, Brandon Lester and Andrew Ardissone each had 10.

The Boxers found themselves behind as much as 17 in the opening half; however, there was a lot of fight in the visitors. Trailing by 10 at the half, 32-22, Pacific scored nine – six of which came from Ewell - of the first 14 points to start the second half to cut the deficit to six, 37-31.

Five-straight points by the Lutes including a 3-pointer by Sawtell pushed the lead back to double figures. Then, twice in the final 11 minutes, Pacific cut the deficit to six points before the host Lutes sealed the win as they scored six of the final eight points.

Next, Pacific will return home to start a four-game homestand when they welcome George Fox on Saturday at 6 p.m.
