The Pacific University men's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring with a 9-0 win at Puget Sound on Sunday in Tacoma.
The Boxers (1-3, 1-1 NWC) shuffled up its lineup but veteran coach
Brian Jackson expressed that it was a solid performance up and down the lineup. The shuffled lineup saw many players in new positions within the Pacific lineup. "I am really proud of our new guys, who all stepped up today. Ford (Nakagawa [Aiea, Hawaii]) and Sean (Murphy [Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.] both took advantage of their first chances in the singles and doubles lineup; plus, Rayden (Murata [Honolulu, Hawaii]) was able to grab his first victory of the season," said Jackson.
The shuffled lineup also saw junior
Oscar Wight (Adelaide, Australia) pick up his first win at No. 1 singles of his career with a 6-2, 6-1. The Boxers were dominant the rest of the day in the other singles matches. The straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win by
Sage Katayama (

Earlier in the day, the Boxers were potent in doubles. The Boxers' No. 2 doubles team of Katayama and
Wesley Upton (Hillsboro, Ore.) rallied from a 4-1 decision to pull out an 8-6 victory. The No. 1 and No. 3 doubles teams each posted 8-1 victories.
Next, Pacific will take on No. 24 Whitman on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. in Walla Walla, Wash.
