The Pacific University men's tennis team rolled to its fourth 9-0 win on the season, defeating Willamette on Saturday at the Holce Tennis Courts in Forest Grove.
The Boxers (11-6, 8-3 NWC) started the day with a sweep of doubles for the ninth time and fifth in the last six matches. The tandem of
Wesley Upton (Hillsboro, Ore.) and
Reuben Mulhern (Boise, Idaho) were victorious with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Senior
Clark Wininger (San Francisco, Calif.) and junior
Oscar Wight (Adelaide, Australia) picked up their fifth in a row and team-leading 14
th win on the season with an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles.
Ford Nakagawa (Aiea, Hawaii) and
Rayden Murata (Honolulu, Hawaii) were 8-3 winners at No. 3 doubles to improve to 6-2 on the season.
Pacific continued its dominance in singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets including a win by sophomore
Griffin Fraser (pictured) (Salem, Ore.) posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles.
Sage Katayama (Mililani, Hawaii) was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 3 singles, freshman
Sean Murphy (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.
"It was a good day for the guys, as they took care of business up and down the lineup," said head coach
Brian Jackson. "I am really proud of the guys toward the bottom of the lineup, as they put together some strong performances."
Next, Pacific will honor Bernstein, Mulhern, Wininger and Upton on Sunday for Senior Day prior to the Boxers taking on the nationally-ranked Whitman Blues, who are No. 3 in the region and No. 13 in the nation at 1 p.m.
