Boxers Complete Season Sweep of George Fox

Despite windy conditions, the Pacific University men's tennis team pulled off a 7-2 win over host George Fox on Sunday in Newberg.

The Boxers (10-6, 7-3 NWC) started the day with a sweep of all three doubles matches. The win at No. 2 doubles by Reuben Mulhern (Boise, Idaho) and Josh Bernstein (Novato, California) was the eighth in a row for the Boxer tandem, who defeated the GFU tandem by an 8-0 margin.

The Bruins (8-7, 6-4 NWC) came back with wins at No. 1 and 2 singles to cut the Pacific lead to 3-2.

Pacficic head coach Brian Jackson noted the solid play by Mulhern put Pacific ahead by a 4-2 margin and the strong play of his freshman class, who picked up victories at No. 4, 5 (Sean Murphy / Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) and 6 (Ford Nakagawa / Aiea, Hawaii) en route to the 7-2. One of the bigger wins on the day came at No. 4 singles by Rayden Murata, who came back a 6-0 loss in the first set to win the next two sets, 6-4, 6-4.
