Boxers Fall to NCAA Division I Northern Colorado, 8-1

Box Score The Pacific University men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to NCAA Division I member, Northern Colorado on Sunday in Forest Grove.

Pacific head coach Pete Yellico reflected after the match, "the total score line doesn't really tell the whole story. The guys battled for the entire match and I believe came away with some really valuable experience."

The Boxers (1-1) found itself behind after losing all three of its doubles matches. "The doubles were solid all around but we came up short executing – a couple unforced errors crept in at inopportune moments," said Yellico.

The Bears (6-6) won the first three singles matches to secure the victory.

Trailing 6-1, Pacific sophomore Rayden Murata (Honolulu, Hawaii) notched an exciting 6-4, 4-6, 15-13 win for the Boxers at No. 4 singles. "Rayden picked up a great win which I think will propel the rest of his season," said Yellico.

Yellico noted that his team will use the match against UNC to work on some glaring deficiencies and come back next week even better. Next, the Boxers start Northwest Conference play on Saturday, March 3 at 10 a.m. at Whitworth and Sunday, March 4 at 10 a.m. at Whitman. The Blues are currently ranked No. 4 in the latest ITA West Region rankings and No. 14 nationally.
