Box Score The Pacific University men's tennis team returned to its winning ways with an 8-1 win over Pacific Lutheran on Saturday in Forest Grove.
The Boxers have won the last six dual matches against the Lutes, who improve to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the Northwest Conference. The Lutes fall to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the Northwest Conference.
"The intensity throughout the match was solid," said head coach
Pete Yellico. "We were able to get outdoors for the first time this season and the guys handled the elements very well. I was very pleased with how well we handled different conditions and am confident how the team will handle the outdoor tennis in Austin upcoming."
Pacific started the day with a sweep of doubles for the second time in the young season. Among the doubles winners were
Joey Balleweg (Temecula, Calif.) and
Riley Boyden (Reno, Nev.) at No. 3,
Jonathan Chung (San Jose, Calif.) and
Sage Katayama (Mililani, Hawaii)
[pictured] at No. 2 and
Oscar Wight (Adelaide, Australia) and
Rayden Murata (Honolulu, Hawaii) at No. 1. All five of the singles wins came in straight sets. The win by Murata is his team-leading eighth win on the season and
Jonathan Chung extended his hitting streak to a team-best three.
The Boxers will get some rest on Saturday night before hosting Puget Sound on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Holce Tennis Courts.
