Box Score It was quite the weekend for the Pacific University men's tennis team. After an 8-1 win on Saturday over PLU, the Boxers ended the weekend with a 9-0 win over Puget Sound on Sunday. 
 
The Boxers (4-2, 3-1 NWC) started the day with their third sweep of the season in doubles. Senior Oscar Wright (Adelaide, Australia) and sophomore Rayden Murata (Honolulu, Hawaii) took care of their opponents at the No. 1 spot with an 8-3 win. At the No. 2 spot, senior Sage Katayama (Mililani, Hawaii) and freshman Jonathan Chung would win sweep their opponent with an 8-0 win. Sophomores Ford Nakagawa (Aiea, Hawaii) and Sean Murphy (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) would wrap up the doubles matches with a 8-1 victory, getting their first win together as a pair.
 
In singles, the Boxers would nearly win all six of the matches in straight sets. Freshman Riley Boyden (Reno, Nevada) [pictured] would improve his singles record to 3-2 on the season, with a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0, (10-6) win at the No. 2 spot. Chung would play at the No. 1 spot for the first time this season, winning his match 6-4, 6-1 to extend his winning streak to four. Concluding the day at the No. 6 spot, freshmen Scott Rowe (Phoenix, Ariz.) would sweep his opponent 6-0, 6-0.
 
Head coach Pete Yellico was satisfied with win to conclude the weekend. But, the outstanding performance from the freshmen and to be able to get them in the lineup early in the season will benefit the Boxers.
 
"I was very happy how we were able to get some of the freshmen in today," Yellico said. "They competed very well, and were able to come out firing on all cylinders after going up 3-0 in doubles. Even though we didn't get a chance to put matches on outside, getting some of our younger guys experience will prove to be valuable later on this season."
 
The Boxers next match is set for Thursday, Mar. 14 at 4 p.m., hosting Austin College in a non-conference contest.
