The Pacific University men's tennis team had a strong showing at the 2018 ITA West Region Championship in Walla Walla, Washington.
No. 5 seed
Reyn Miyagawa reached the quarterfinals before dropping a 6-1, 6-0 decision to No. 1 seed Luke Lemaitre of George Fox.

To reach the quarterfinals, Miyagawa won three-straight, straight-set matches. He started the tournament with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Marcus Lee of Pacific Lutheran. Then, he was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Nishaant Limaye of Willamette.

On Sunday, he was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Rox Rogers of George Fox before losing to Lemaitre.

Among the other strong performances in singles were from
Sean Murphy, who reached the round of 16. Murphy was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Branson Near and upset No. 4 Raed Attia by a 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 margin on Saturday night. His tournament ended with a 6-2, 6-1 loss to No. 11 seed Keaton Baker of George Fox on Sunday.

The third Boxer to reach the round of 16 in singles was
Rayden Murata, who started the tournament with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins on Saturday. The No. 16 seed Murata lost by a 6-1, 6-2 margin on Sunday to No. 2 seed Ben Kirsh of Whitman.

Rayden teamed up with his brother, Koby as the No. 4 seed where they lost in the quarterfinals by a 9-7 margin to John Carter/Alex Hwang of Whitman.

To wrap up the preparations for the rigorous spring season, the Boxers will host Willamette in a non-conference match on Saturday, Sept. 29 and UC Santa Cruz on Sunday, Oct. 14.
