Pacific Loses Dual to Warner Pacific, 44-12

The Pacific University men's wrestling team dropped a 44-12 dual meet decision to Warner Pacific on Wednesday in Forest Grove.

The Boxers picked up wins at 184 lbs. by Patrick Penick (pictured; photo by Kip Yoshimura) and at 197 lbs. by Ian Morford.

The victory by Penick came in a tightly-contest opening period against Matt Aguigui. The first period saw Aguigui start the match with a takedown in the opening seconds of the contest. Then, Penick quickly escaped to cut the deficit to 2-1, who also added a takedown for his first lead with a 3-2 advantage. As the aggressor, Penick managed to get his second takedown of the period, which he promptly turned into a near fall and edged the buzzer at the end of the period for the fall.

One of the other tightly-contested matchups on the night came at 157 pounds as the Boxers' sophomore Samuel Cortez dropped a 6-4 decision to Chas Peterson. Peterson capitalized on a four-point near fall in the third period and 1:19 of riding time for the victory. Cortez had managed to cut the deficit to one, 5-4 when he picked up a late reversal in the final period.
