The Pacific University men's and women's track and field teams competed in their third home meet Saturday at the Pacific Open. The Boxers did not have their entire team present at the meet due to many student-athletes traveling for Spring Break. Pacific University recorded 13 top-three finishes, with three individual champions.
Josh Huffman had a throw of 154-8 (47.15m) to win the men's discus, and was runner up in shot put with a PR mark of 14.69m. Emily Sproul was the champion in the women's javelin with her throw of 138-0 (42.07m). In the men's hammer throw, Jason Draper won with a mark of 165-2 (50.36m). There were also several notable performances and big PR's set at the meet outside of the individual winning efforts. In the women's 400m dash, Megan Eberhardt ran to second place with a big PR of 59.77. Naom Bass was fourth place in the men's long jump with a PR of 21-2 3/4 (6.47m), and David Wright was fifth in the men's hammer throw with a PR of 140-6 (42.84m). Garrett Stewart placed fourth in the men's 400m dash with a time of 51.83 – a PR and a NWC qualifying mark. Elijah Pine also PR'd in men's hammer with a mark of 123-3 (37.58m), and Gavin Vance set a PR in the men's 1500m run with a time of 4:27.81.
"There were many solid performances today," Head Coach Matt Lydum said. "The team is looking to transition off of spring break into the second half of the season. The coming meets will be very important for securing conference qualifiers."
The Boxers continue their season at Linfield next Saturday.
