Box Score Whitworth turned a double play in the fourth and fifth inning to keep the Pacific softball team off the scoreboard en route to a 2-0 win on Friday.
The Boxers (23-17) managed to out hit the Pirates by an 8-3 margin but it was the defensive plays that kept Pacific held in check. Nicole Martinez, Hailey Miller and Taylor Nishimura each had two hits in the loss.
The Pirates (30-9) ended a scoreless game in the third with a RBI sacrifice fly as Whitworth
had loaded the bases with one out earlier in the inning. A fourth inning double play by Whitworth
held kept Pacific off the scoreboard before the Pirates added an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning.
Another sacrifice fly pushed across the run for Whitworth, who just had three hits – two of which from Morgan Portlock – in the win.
Pacific will next face George Fox, who lost a 9-0 decision to host Linfield on Friday, on Saturday at 2 p.m.
