Pacific University sophomore
Reyn Miyagawa punched his ticket to the semifinals at the ITA Fall Regional Championships to lead the Boxers' men's tennis team on Sunday.
With three Boxers in the quarterfinals, Miyagawa started his day with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Derek Simondsen of Whitman. Then, he followed that up with his fourth-consecutive straight set with with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over No. 4 seed Daniel Foster of Whitman.
On Monday at 9 a.m., he will face No. 2 seed Will Leach of George Fox.
The other two Boxers –
Sean Murphy and
Rayden Murata - who remained alive in the main draw lost their third round matches on Sunday. Murphy lost 6-4, 6-1 to No. 3 seed Luke Memaitre of George Fox and Murata lost by a 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 margin to Andreas Mueller-Immergluck of Whitman.
In the consolation draw,
Koby Murata lost his third round match to Jonah Wafula of George Fox by an 8-1 margin. To reach the third round, he started the day with an 8-3 win over Bear Lee of Whitman.
In doubles action, in the main draw, Miyagawa and
Joey Hu posted an 8-5 victory in the quarterfinals over Andreas Mueller-Immergluck/Rajul Chikkalingaiah of Whitman. The run for to the finals ended with an 8-4 loss to the No. 2 seed team of Leach and Namba.
In the consolation bracket, the Murata brothers, who are the No. 3 seed reached the finals. On Monday at 9 a.m., they will face the George Fox tandem of Rox Rogers/Jonah Wafula.
