After a strong start to the Conference season with a win against Pacific Lutheran the Boxer men's tennis team was looking to continue their momentum and did so picking up two wins over Lewis & Clark this past weekend.
Boxers opened the weekend with a dominating 9-0 win over the Pioneers to pick up a Conference win and then on Sunday in non-conference action also picked up a win this time 5-4.
Saturday opened with some tough doubles contests but the Boxers were a perfect 3-0 in the doubles action. The tandem of
Quentin Gonzalez and
Sean Murphy earned a 8-6 win, while
Reyn Miyagawa and
Joey Hu won 8-5 and
Rayden Murata and
Koby Murata picked up an 8-3 win.
Singles action saw a sweep for the Boxers also on Saturday with Miyagawa picking up the most dominating victory winning 6-1, 6-1. Gonzalez and Murphy notched wins of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2, respectively in singles action.
Rayden Murata,
Joey Balleweg, Hu also picked up singles victories as Murata won 6-3, 6-4, Balleweg won 6-3, 6-1 and Hu won 6-1, 7-5.
On Sunday it was a tighter battle between the Boxers and Pioneers and the lineup featured a few different Boxers in action, also.
Boxers sweep the doubles competition again as the team of Miyagawa and
Rayden Murata won 8-2, while
Koby Murata and Hu won 8-5 and Murphy and Gonzalez snagged an 8-3 win.
In singles action Pacific saw Murphy and
Rush Williams earn wins claiming victory 7-5, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-0, respectively. Balleweg,
Garret Katayama,
Cooper Rich and
Jeffery Kubota were also in action on Sunday in singles competition for the Boxers. Balleweg dropped a 5-7, 4-6 decision, while Katayama went three sets falling 2-6, 6-2, 3-6. Rich also went three sets falling 2-6, 7-5, 2-6 and Kubota fell 2-6, 6-7 (6-7).
Next action for the Boxers is set for Saturday and Sunday, March 27th and 28th against George Fox on the road Saturday and at home on Sunday.
