NEWBERG, Ore.- The Pacific men's tennis team had some standout performances at the ITA Regional Championships hosted by George Fox University.

Pete Yellico. "Everyone fought from the first ball to the last. Special shout out to
Quentin Gonzalez and
Aidan Rooney for earning their way into the finals of the doubles. They had a great tournament and I'm very happy for them. Mason (Tran) and Reyn (Miyagawa) also had a great tournament by amking the semifinals for both doubles and singles. The team as a whole also did an amazing job with 12 of 13 team members making it into the main draw of singles and doubles."
Singles
Reyn Miyagawa (Junior/Kaneohe, HI) was the number one seed in the singles draw and managed to reach the semifinal round. The junior won his first match 6-0, 6-0 and followed it up with another win in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Miyagawa battled for a three-set victory in his next match, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Despite a valiant effort, Miyagawa was finally knocked off by the eventual champion, George Fox's Luke Lemaitre.
Mason Tran (Freshman/Irvine, CA) had an impressive showing in the singles tournament, reaching the semifinal on the other side of the bracket. Tran started with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories before winning his next two matches 7-5, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-0. He would eventually fall to the tournament's runner-up.
Joey Hu (Junior/Aiea, HI) and
Matt Weiler (Junior/Dundee, OR) each won their first match but were knocked out in the second round.
Quentin Gonzalez (Junior/Orange,CA) made a decent run on the singles side, winning three matches (6-4, 7-6), (6-0, 6-0), (7-6, 6-4) before falling to Will Leach of George Fox, the number two overall seed.
Koby Murata (Junior/Kaimuki, HI) also fell to Leach, but won a pair a matches (6-0, 7-5), (6-3, 6-0) before doing so.
Osman Chan,
Joshua Matabuena, and
Cooper Rich each won their two matches in singles.
Doubles
The duo of Hu and Murata were cruising as the number four seed in the doubles draw, winning (8-5), (8-1), (8-1), but dropped their semifinal match to the eventual champions George Fox.
Gonzalez and
Aidan Rooney (Freshman/Mililani, HI) made a run to the championship match, putting in a brilliant weekend. The pair won (8-2), (8-2), (8-5), including a win over their Pacific teammates Miyagawa and Tran in the semifinal, before finishing as runners-up in the tournament.
