Boxers Begin Florida Trip with Big Win Over Lynx

Alexis Intong's double-double helps lift Pacific over Rhodes

ST. PETERSBURG. Fla. – Pacific returned to its winning ways with a great all-around performance to take down Rhodes College 72-33 in its first contest of the team's Florida trip.

The Boxers' defense was incredible, holding the Lynx to just 21.1% shooting and 12.5% from three-point range. The second-half effort was outstanding as the Red and Black allowed just 11 points in the second half. Pacific was dominant on the glass, out-rebounding Rhodes 55-37.

Top Performers
  • Alexis Intong posted her first double-double of the seasons with 10 points to go along with her season-high 15 rebounds. She was very efficient as she went 5-of-8 from the field and made her presence felt on the defensive end with four blocks.
  • Sydney Gray reached double figures with 12 points, nailing a couple three-pointers.
  • Rilee Price also managed double-digits with 10 points on the day.

How It Happened

The Boxers trailed after the first few possessions but eventually stormed out in front, taking a 15-9 lead after the first 10 minutes.

Pacific quickly extended its lead to double-digits in the second quarter behind Intong's back-to-back layups. This sparked a 12-0 run to start the period and suddenly Forest Grove's team was in full control. The Lynx rallied to cut the deficit to single digits, but the Boxers replied with another solid stretch to take a 12-point advantage into the break.

The Pacific defense stepped up in the third quarter and surrendered just two points. This allowed the Boxers to build a 24-point lead as they out-scored Rhodes 16-4.

Pacific coasted to victory in the fourth and final quarter as they turned in another excellent defensive performance that saw seven points scored by the opposition. The Boxers improve to 7-2 on the year and begin their Florida trip with a victory.
