ST. PETERSBURG. Fla. – Pacific women's basketball made it four wins in its last five games when the Boxers earned a 65-56 victory over Lawrence to cap off the St. Pete Classic.
It was a fairly even contest but Pacific showed consistency in both halves to come away with the win. The Boxers made a season-high 12 three-pointers to gain the edge.
Top Performers
- Brilie Kovaloff dropped a game-high 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting while going 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
- Sydney Gray was effective on both ends of the floor with 13 points and seven boards.
- Emily Holsan chipped in with eight points.
How It Happened
The back-and-forth matchup began with a hotly contested first quarter than saw the Boxers take a two-point lead into the second period. The three-point barrage was on from the start as Kovaloff and Holsan buried a pair of treys for Pacific's first baskets of the game.
Lawrence battled back to tie the score at 26-26 at the 4:11 mark in the second quarter. Four consecutive points from Holsan allowed the Boxers to take a 33-30 lead into the break.
Pacific finally found some separation in the third period as the defense held Vikings to just nine points. Lawrence stayed within striking distance but back-to-back triples from Gray gave the Boxers a nine-point cushion heading into the final 10 minutes.
Buckets from
Rilee Price and Kovaloff extended the advantage to double-digits and despite a late charge from the Vikings that cut the deficit to just four points, Pacific would prevail with the 65-56 victory to conclude the team's Florida trip.
