FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Pacific's excellent defense continued to shine in its 66-39 win over Linfield to remain unbeaten in Northwest Conference action.
The Boxers shutout the Wildcats in the first quarter held their opponent under 30% shooting on the night. This was the second time this season Pacific has achieve that defensive feat.
Top Performers
- Rilee Price turned in another impressive performance with a season-high 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting with two three-pointers.
- Brilie Kovaloff poured in 13 points and made her presence felt on the boards with six rebounds.
- Emily Holsan made it back-to-back games in double digits with 10 points in the contest.
How It Happened
The Boxers put on an incredible defensive performance in the opening quarter, holding the Wildcats scoreless in the opening 10 minutes. Price gave the Boxers the perfect start to the contest by finishing off a tough layup in the paint before completing the three-point play at the foul line. Pacific struggled to find the shooting touch but managed to maintain a sizable lead behind some ferocious defense that forced seven straight missed field goals and three turnovers from visitors before the first media timeout.
Marissa Layosa rose up and connected on a mid-range pull-up jumper to make it a 9-0 start for Forest Grove's team. Driving layups from Price and Intong capped off an outstanding 13-0 first quarter.
Holsan got her name on the scoresheet with a smooth jumper for the first bucket of the second period. Back-to-back jump shots from
Hannah Stein extended the advantage to 19-0 before Linfield finally scored its first basket of the game. Kovaloff started to heat up with six consecutive points to open up a 21-point lead for the hosts. With one half in the books, the Wildcats were held to 3-for-20 from the floor as the Pacific defense was nearly impenetrable, allowing the Boxers to post a 30-6 lead.
Holsan netted a jumper to open the second half but the Boxers would begin to sputter on the offensive end, missing four straight attempts from the field before Price ended the two-minute scoring drought with a tough layup to reach double figures. However, the Wildcats would start to find their footing in the third quarter by out-scoring the Boxers 22-15 to make it a 45-28 ballgame heading into the fourth.
Pacific started the final period on a 6-0 run to push the lead to 23 points and cruised the rest of the way and capped off the perfect week with the 66-39 victory.
Haia Ku and
Shaade Williams highlighted the fourth quarter by scoring their first career points.
