Boxers Extend Win Streak to Four Games

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Pacific University women's basketball team grabbed their fourth consecutive win by grinding out the victory in a low-scoring contest against George Fox, defeating the Bruins 53-37 on Tuesday night inside the Stoller Center.

The Boxers (17-6, 11-3 NWC) shot a season-low 30% from the field but managed to play some extremely strong defense, holding the Bruins to just 37 points on the night. This is the least amount of points Pacific has surrendered in a game this season. They held George Fox to just 29.1% from the field and did not allow a three-pointer in the contest.

Rilee Price (Junior/Brea, CA) had a fantastic night, scoring a team-high 14 points while grabbing six boards. The junior knocked down two threes and snatched two steals on the defensive end.

Sydney Gray (Junior/Central Point, OR) nearly recorded a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds. Gray was perfect from the free throw line, making six of her six attempts.

Madi Dunlop (Sophomore/Palmer, AK) scored eight points and registered a team-high nine rebounds.

How It Happened

It was a slow start for the Boxers as they went just 2-of-13 in the opening quarter. With a minute left in the period, Brilie Kovaloff (Junior/Honolulu, HI) hit a three-pointer to cut the deficit to seven points.

The Boxers found their footing in the second quarter when Anya Henderson (Sophomore/Clackamas, OR) found Kaylee-Brooke Manuel (Junior/Nanakuli, HI) with a beautiful pass. George Fox would extend their lead to eight points but Pacific would respond with an 11-0 run to close the half. The Boxers out-scored the Bruins 15-5 in the second period to take a 22-19 lead going into the break.

Price nailed a triple on Pacific's first possession of the second half to push the lead to six points. Another jumper from the Brea, Calif. native made it a 10-point advantage and the Boxers would take a double-digit lead into the final 10 minutes.

A short surge from the visitors in the beginning of the fourth quarter would force a timeout from Head Coach Alecia Parker. The timeout would prove to be extremely effective as the Boxers finished the game on a 12-2 run while holding George Fox scoreless for over four minutes to grab the 53-37 win on their home court.

  • Pacific out-rebounded their opponents 46-38.
  • This was the second time this season the Boxers did not allow a three-pointer.
