FOREST GROVE, Ore.- The Pacific University golf program opened the spring season over the weekend with a dual match against Linfield University.
The dual match featured both teams battling it out in match play format. There were nine matches played per day on the men's side while there were six matches played on the women's side. Day one was contested at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Oregon while Linfield hosted day two at Michelbook Country Club in McMinnville, Oregon.
On the men's side Linfield won seven points to the Boxers two points on day one. On day two the margin was the same with the Wildcats earning seven points again to the Boxers two. Wildcats would win the two-day total by a margin of 14-4. The Boxers were highlighted by
Mason Rodewald (Freshman/Portland, OR) who went 2-0 on the weekend winning 2&1 in both has matches.
Matthew Zaback (Junior/Corvallis, OR) helped the Boxers on the weekend winning his day one match 2&1 before his day two match ended all square.
The women's side was closely contested and matches went down to the last hole on multiple occasions over the two days. The Boxers held a three and half to two and a half lead after day one. The tides would turn on day two and Linfield would claim four and a half points to take the win 7-5 between both days.
Avery Arnold (Sophomore/Chewelah, WA) and
Madison Cabardo (Junior/Scottsdale, AZ) led the way for the Boxers. On day one, Arnold, Cabardo and
Ensley McClellan-Tedrow (Freshman/Ferndale, WA) each earned a point winning their match. Day two the only Boxer to pick up a winning point was
Sydnie Matsuda (Freshman/Kahului, HI) who won one up.
Up Next
The Boxers will take next weekend off before returning to action March 12
th and 13
th with a dual against Lewis and Clark at Quail Valley.
