Kovaloff scores Career-High 31 Points in Boxers' Win

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Pacific University women's basketball team picks up their second win in a row as they defeat the Linfield Wildcats 76-65 thanks to Brilie Kovaloff's (Junior/Honolulu, HI) career performance.

The Boxers (15-6, 9-3 NWC) shot 47% and made 10 three-pointers in an impressive shooting display. The Boxers also controlled the boards with 41 rebounds.

The Wildcats (1-19, 1-11 NWC) was stifled by Pacific's defense only being held at 42% shooting and only made three three-pointers. Linfield managed to only pull down 25 rebounds

Kovaloff (Junior/Honolulu, HI) led the Boxers on the offensive end with a career high of 31 pts. She shot an excellent 80% (12-15) from the field and went 3-5 from the three point line.

Camy Aguinaldo (Senior/Honolulu, HI) also had herself an outstanding game by scoring 27 pts. She went 5-7 from the three-point line. Aguinaldo also led the team with four assists.

Rilee Price (Junior/Brea, CA) and Sydney Gray (Junior/Central Point, OR) helped the team with the boards as each of them led the team with seven rebounds in the game. Emily Holsan

(Freshman/Sammamish, WA) also helped collect five rebounds for the Boxers.

How It Happened

Pacific started the game firing on all cylinders thanks to Aguinaldo's lights out shooting. The Boxers started the game going on a 12-2 run. It was raining threes when Aguinaldo went a perfect 4-4 from beyond -the-arc in the first quarter. Aguinaldo accounted for 17 points out of Pacific's 23 points in the first quarter.

It was a back-and-forth scoring battle in the second quarter. Kovaloff found her rhythm in the second quarter scoring 16 points and going 2-3 from the three point line.  The Wildcats would keep the Boxers scoring for two minutes. But with 1:33 left in the quarter Kovaloff turned it up a gear and scored Pacific's last eight points of the half. Pacific went into the half up 47-32.

Pacific shot an impressive 62% (18-29) from the field in the first half. Pacific kept letting the threes fly in the first half going 7-8 from beyond-the-arc.

Kovaloff would pick up right where she left off at the start of the third quarter by picking up the basket and the foul. Linfield would not go away though as they started the quarter by making their first four of five baskets. The Wildcats were able to slow down the Boxer's offense when they held Pacific scoreless for over three minutes. But Holsan put an end to that when she made a three of her own. Kovaloff would end the quarter with back-to-back layups to put Pacific up 65-52 to end the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter booth teams struggled to get anything in the baskets with the two teams playing lockdown defense. At the 5:15 mark of the fourth quarter, Kovaloff made a layup to give herself a career-high of 31 pts. The Boxer defense was able to shut down the Wildcats in the last two-minutes with Linfield only making their last 3of 13 field goals to end the game.
