SALEM, Ore.- Pacific men's tennis capped off a perfect opening weekend of Northwest Conference play by sweeping Willamette 9-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Boxers didn't lose a single match on the weekend, going a perfect 18-0 over the first two days of conference competition. Every member of the Red and Black won their match in straight sets against Willamette, in what was an absolutely dominant display.
"It was a strong performance today, up and down the lineup," said Head Coach
Brian Jackson. "It was a bit of a challenge playing outdoors for the first time this year, but I was really proud of the composure our guys showed to get the job done. We're really happy to have an opportunity to get some of our depth on the court and have them play so well. That will certainly help us down the road. Now we prepare for what should an exciting match next Saturday."
Pacific won all three doubles matches without dropping a single game.
Reyn Miyagawa (Junior/Kaneohe, HI) and
Mason Tran (Freshman/Irvine, CA) cruised to an 8-0 victory in number-one doubles while
Quentin Gonzalez (Junior/Orange, CA) and
Aidan Rooney (Freshman/Mililani, HI) teamed up to win 8-0 in the number-two spot.
Joey Hu (Junior/Aiea, HI) and
Garret Katayama (Senior/Boise, ID) made it clean sweep in doubles with their 8-0 win.
In singles, Miyagawa made quick work of his opponent with his 6-1, 6-0 win in straight sets before Gonzalez won his match 6-1, 6-1.
Nicholas Koulisis (Freshman/Boca Raton, FL) held down the number-three spot by taking his match 6-3, 6-0 and
Koby Murata (Junior/Kaimuki, H) followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at number four.
Rooney won his match 6-0, 6-1 and
Osman Chan (Freshman) had a great showing in his match as well, winning 6-1, 6-0.
