Pacific Earns Wire-to-Wire Win in Spokane

Pacific scored first and never looked back earning a 53-43 win.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Pacific women's basketball closed their Eastern Washington trip with a 53-43 win over Whitworth.

The Boxers were able to establish an advantage over the host Pirates by scoring 25 points off of turnovers compared to the five the Pirates scored.

Top Performers
  • Brilie Kovaloff scored a team high 23 points by shooting 9-18 from the floor.
  • Sydney Gray's 10 points made her the only other Boxer in double figures.
  • Danica Schmidt was able to secure a season high 15 rebounds with four of those coming on the offensive end.

How It Happened

The Boxers started the contest going 0-4 on the field before a Kovaloff layup opened the scoring for either team two and a half minutes into the quarter. Over the first five minutes of the contest the Red and Black went on a 9-2 run. Shaade Williams was able to convert the free throw attached to converted bucket as the Boxers took a 12-7 lead into the quarter break.

Pacific opened up the second quarter stretching their lead to 14 following a Gray three-pointer with 6:32 remaining. Over the next three minutes, the host Pirates put together a 6-0 run to draw within single digits. Kovaloff was able to convert another long range shot with seven seconds before half to take a 26-13 lead to the locker room.

Whitworth came out in the second half not ready to surrender to the Boxers. They were able to shrink the deficit to five points, 28-23. That would be as close as they would get for the remainder of the quarter with an end of the third quarter score being 36-28.

The final quarter belonged to the Boxers who opened a quick 13-point lead following a Schmidt fastbreak layup. Pacific was able to earn the 53-43 win over the Pirates who never saw a lead for the duration of the contest.
