Boxers Roll to Win on Senior Night

FOREST GROVE, Ore.- The Pacific University Women's Basketball team cruised to a dominant 62-36 win over Pacific Lutheran.

Prior to the contest the Boxers took the time to honor the six seniors that are graduating and played their last game inside the Stoller Center.

Top Performers

  • Sydney Gray finished the contest by scoring 13 points while also shooting 3-6 from deep.
  • Rilee Price handed out four assists for the Boxers in the win.
  • Alexis Intong pulled down eight rebounds with three extending possessions on the offensive end.

How It Happened

The Lutes were quick to score to open the game taking an early 10-4 lead over the first three minutes and change. A long range shot from Brilie Kovaloff would pull it within three before the visiting Lutes would score three unanswered baskets to stretch the lead to nine. At the conclusion of the first quarter, neither team had committed a foul and the Lutes held a 19-12 lead.

Pacific's defense was the highlight of the second quarter and what gave the hosts control of the game. Something hardly seen in basketball occurred, with PLU shooting 0-7 from the field for the duration of the whole quarter. The Boxer defense held the Lutes to two points in the quarter which were a pair of free throws with 48 seconds remaining before half. Pacific took a 27-21 lead to the locker room.

Pacific's defense again was troublesome for the Lutes as they turned over the ball multiple times in their scoring drought with a combination of five second out of bounds calls as well as 10 second back court violations. With 2:15 remaining in the third quarter Pacific held a 21-point lead. PLU successfully converted a shot which end their drought without a made shot that started with 2:11 remaining in the first quarter. At the end of the third quarter the Boxers held a  47-26 lead.

The fourth quarter was more of the same as Pacific opened a 30-point lead on the way to a 62-36 win.
