Pacific will celebrate its 23rd season of women's wrestling with one its largest and most talented teams in the history of the program.
"We didn't just bring in numbers. We brought in some really talented wrestlers," Pacific head coach
Zach Binkerd said. "I'm really excited to see how it all plays out."
The Boxers return three wrestlers who placed at the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Regionals as freshmen --Â
Audrey Diaz (136),Â
Paige Beals (155) andÂ
Isabella Renner (170).
Pacific also brings back two talented wrestlers who missed all of last season with injuries. Junior
Analeese McAllister returns from a season-ending knee injury while junior
Makaila Takahashi is back after dislocating her shoulder.
Junior
Zainab Ibrahim joins Pacific after winning a junior college national championship at Umpqua Community College.
"She brings a lot of experience and a lot of success to us," Binkerd said. "We're excited to have her."
The Boxers have also added a talented freshman class, which includes Washington high school state championÂ
Shananiah Cassidy and runner-upÂ
Kya Roundtree.
"It's a pretty strong group of girls, a lot of really good competitors," Binkerd said. "Girls who are just excited about wrestling, kind of lifestyle wrestlers. Someone who really just gets it from the get go.
"We made a pretty concerted effort to grow our women's team, kind of seeing what's been happening with women's wrestling and the growth that's been going on. It's the fastest growing sport in the country right now. Things just kind of came together in the right way."
Pacific opens the 2024-25 season on Sunday, Nov. 17 at home in the Mike Clock Open.Â
