SALEM -- Pacific guard
Brilie Kovaloff drained a 3-pointer to tie Willamette with 10 seconds remaining. But the Bearcats answered with a 3 of their own at the buzzer to defeat the Boxers 50-47 Tuesday night and remain in first place in the Northwest Conference.
The game had nine ties and four lead changes. Neither team ever led by more than five points.
Tied 35-35 entering the fourth period, Pacific's
Sydney Gray knocked down a 3-pointer to give Pacific a 38-35 lead with 8:55 remaining. But the Boxers didn't score again until the 2:29 mark as Willamette went on a 8-0 run to take a 43-48 lead.
A Kovaloff jump shot got Pacific within 44-42 with 1:38 remaining. After Willamette went 1-for-2 from the free throw line,
Alexis Intong scored in the paint to get the Boxers within 45-44 with 16 seconds to go.
The Bearcats then made two free throws with 15 seconds to setup Kovaloff's game-tying 3-pointer.
Kovaloff finished with 10 points, three rebounds and three assists to lead Pacific. Intong had eight points and nine rebounds.
Shaade Williams added eight points and three rebounds.Â
After winning nine straight NWC games, the Boxers have now lost three in a row and trail first-place Willamette by two games with only three games remaining in the regular season.Â
Next, Pacific hosts Pacific Lutheran on Friday at 6 p.m. inside the Stoller Center.
