Game Preview: Pacific vs Pomona-Pitzer

See your cardiologist before heading to Hanson Stadium Saturday night when Pacific and Pomona-Pitzer meet for the fourth straight season. 
 
The three previous matchups have been decided by a total of 13 points, with last year's contest, a 24-17 Pomona-Pitzer victory, being the most lopsided of the series. 
 
The Boxers won the first two games 23-20 in 2022 and 38-35 in 2021.
 
Pomona-Pitzer, the 2022 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champions, finished 6-4 overall and 5-3 in the SCIAC last season. 
 
The Sagehens are coming off a bye after defeating Carleton College 28-12 on Sept. 7.
 
Dual-threat quarterback Grady Russo, a sophomore from Dover, Mass., passed for 203 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for 110 yards on 22 carries.
 
Brennan Dragomer, a sophomore from Burbank, Calif., gained 67 yards on 14 attempts.
 
Quinten Wimmer, a senior from Hollis, New Hampshire and First Team All-SCIAC in 2022 and 2023, caught nine passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns. 
 
Matthias Olson, a junior from Pasadena, Calif., who was also voted First Team All-SCIAC last season, had five receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown in the 2024 season opener. 
 
Olson caught six passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns against Pacific last season.
 
Linebacker David Gorman, a fifth-year senior from Modesto, Calif, recorded seven tackles to lead the Pomona-Pitzer defense against Carleton. 
 
Defensive back Charlie Russo, a senior from Bradford, Connecticut and Second Team All-Conference selection in 2023, had six tackles.
 
Senior Thomas McConnell, a two-time First Team All-Conference linebacker, added five tackles in the Sagehens week one win.
 
Pacific is coming off a 34-24 victory over Lewis & Clark on Saturday, Sept. 14.
 
Junior Brody Bantolina, the reigning Northwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week, was the star of the game, finishing with 256 rushing yards and two touchdowns. His 99-yard touchdown is the longest in Boxer football history.
 
In two games, Bantolina has 411 yards and four touchdowns. 
 
Against Lewis & Clark, quarterback Braeden Titus threw his first touchdown pass of the season, connecting with Josiah Chaffin for a 65-yard score. 
 
Chaffin has seven receptions for 122 yards this season. 
 
Pacific's defense has forced eight turnovers, including seven fumbles, in two games. 
 
Sophomore safety Anthony Lopez leads the until with 15 total tackles and an interception.
 
Pacific and Pomona-Pitzer kick off Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7:05 p.m.
