Boxers can't complete comeback against No. 7 Whitman

Sophomore Victoria Prochazka knocked down a 3-pointer to get Pacific within single digits of the No. 7-ranked team in the country with 8:56 remaining.

But the Boxers could not complete the comeback, falling 55-48 to Whitman Friday night inside the Stoller Center.

Pacific battled the Blues to an 8-8 tie in the first 6 minutes before Whitman responded with a 13-2 run to take control of the game.

The Blues, who led by as many as 15 points in the second period, went into halftime up 34-21.

The final margin of victory, seven points, was the closest the Boxers got to Whitman in the second half.

Pacific shot just 35.2 percent from the field and made just 2 of 13 3-pointers. The Blues weren't much better offensively, shooting 39.7 percent and finishing 2-for-12 from 3.

Shaade Williams finished with 14 points and five rebounds to lead the Boxers. Emily Holsan had 10 points and four rebounds. Jasmine Olivar added 11 points off the bench.

Whitman senior Korin Baker, the reigning Northwest Conference Player of the Year, battled foul trouble and finished with 13 points and 9 rebounds in 23 minutes.

Next: Pacific hosts Whitworth (6-8, 3-2) on Saturday at 6 p.m.
