ResultsSPOKANE, Wash. — Perennial powers in the pool, the Whitworth Pirates took a pair of dual meet victories over the Pacific University men's and women's swim teams on Friday night in Spokane.
The Pirate men, who have won 12 of the past 13 Northwest Conference titles, topped the Boxers 147-54, while the Pacific women also came up short, 162-36. Whitworth finished second in the NWC championships for women in 2014-15.
Raymond Miller and
Jack Lloyd were the lone victors on the evening for Pacific. Miller won the 200 freestyle in 1:46.70, just out-kicking the Pirates' Kevin Moore (1:47.72). Lloyd captured the 100 free style in 48.00 and was just nipped in the 50 freestyle by Whitworth's Kyle Wicks, who clocked 21.90 to Lloyd's 21.92.
Michael Sakai was another victim by inches, losing out to WU's Jake McCollugh in the 200 butterfly. Sakai touched in a 2:00.00 to McCollugh's 1:59.92.
On the women's side,
Rachel Webster locked into the best battle of the night, finishing third behind Whitworth's Jacqueline Beal (2:18.46) and Jane Holmes (2:19.41) in the 200 I.M. Webster was right behind Beal in 2:19.48.
Pacific will get right back into the water on Saturday, traveling to Walla Walla to take on Whitman. Start time will be 1 p.m.
