Box Score Visiting Linfield edged the Pacific University women's basketball team, 70-65 on Saturday afternoon in the Stoller Center.
The Wildcats' Molly Danielson hit a jumper with 22 seconds left to break the fifth tie of the game between the two local rivals.
Danielson was one of four players for Linfield in double figures including Kory Oleson, scoring 19 points off the bench. Danielson added 13, Bailey McDevitt and Genna Hughes scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. With the win, Linfield improves to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the Northwest Conference.
The Boxers (0-6, 0-1 NWC) had a chance to tie the game after the Danielson jumper but missed its jumper with six seconds left that forced Pacific to foul. Hughes hit one of two free throws for the final margin.
Pacific junior guard Jenee' Brown (Kailua, Hawaii) scored a game-high and career-high 23 points – 15 of which came in the second half. Junior guard
Liana Tanaka (Kahului, Hawaii) added 15 points.
The Boxers found themselves behind as much as 13 to the visitors from McMinnville in the first half. However, Pacific is a very resilient squad and refused to concede.
With a seven-point halftime deficit, 36-27, Pacific rallied to take a 42-41 lead with 4:30 left in the third quarter on a 15-4 run. During the run, Brown hit a pair of big 3-pointers to spark the Boxers.
Linfield regained the lead and stretched the advantage to as much as six before Brown singlehandedly scored seven straight to put Pacific ahead 63-62 with 3:36 left to play. However, once Linfield regained the lead, they would not relinquish it in the final 2:56.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Boxers, who will next travel to face Lewis & Clark on Monday at 6 p.m.
