The Pacific University men's tennis team posted a 9-0 win over Lewis & Clark at the Holce Tennis Courts on Saturday in a non-conference matchup.
"The guys played great across the board," said Pacific head coach Pete Yellico. "We have been practicing great and played great in Hawaii. The guys are improving every time they step on the court."
After starting the season with three matches in Hawaii against two of the top teams in NCAA Division III and another top team in Division II, the Boxers started the day with a sweep of doubles. In its three doubles victories, the Boxers picked up a pair of 8-3 wins at the #1 (
Rayden Murata/
Reyn Miyagawa) and #2 (
Quentin Gonzalez/
Sean Murphy) flights.
"We were able to set the tone of the match after going up 3-0 in doubles," noted Yellico. "I am proud the way we battled on each singles line."
Feeding off the momentum of its doubles sweep, the Boxers continued its winning ways with victories across all six singles flights. Five of the six went straight sets and the sixth was a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles by
Rayden Murata.
Next on the schedule for Boxers is a matchup on Feb. 16 against Bellevue College at 11 a.m. at the Holce Tennis Courts.
