Career Nights from Brown and Cambra Not Enough as Boxers Fall to Loggers

UPS sneaks out the five-set victory on Saturday night

TACOMA, Wash. – Pacific Volleyball showed great resilience to force a fifth set on Saturday night in Tacoma, but Puget Sound edged the final frame to bring the Boxers' win streak to an end.

Top Performers

  • Mara Murphy paced the Boxers offensively with 27 kills, just one short of her season high.
  • Alison Brown delivered another excellent performance with her career-best 21 kills on the night, hitting an efficient .222
  • Shaianne Cambra also reached her career high with 59 assists in the contest. She also picked up the double-double with 11 digs.

How It Happened

Puget Sound built an early lead in the first set but Pacific rallied for six consecutive points to gain some momentum. The two teams would trade points for majority of the set until kills from Sarah Hon and Murphy game the Boxers the breathing room they needed to earn the 25-19 win. Murphy exploded for seven kills in the opening set to begin her impressive night.

Despite the hot start, UPS used a late run to snatch the second set 25-21 to even the match at a set apiece. In the third set, the Loggers led from start-to-finish to take control of the match with their 25-22 victory.

In the fourth set, Puget Sound raced to a 12-4 advantage but Pacific would battle back, using an 8-0 run to give itself some life. The set would go down to the wire as the Boxers managed to fight off two separate match points. Forest Grove's team showed some incredible resilience to win the set 28-16 to send the match to a decisive fifth.

The fifth and final set was also hotly contested, but UPS would prevail in the back-and-forth thriller to snap Pacific's three-game win streak.

What It Means
