How It Happened
Pacific dropped the first five points of the match as they struggled to gain a foothold in the opening set. The Boxers battled back to even the score at 8-8, but the hosts regained their momentum after a timeout and raced to a 20-13 advantage. Pacific was unable to recover and Linfield took the first set 25-16.
In the second set, Forest Grove's team jumped out to a 10-5 lead, responding well to the early adversity. The Boxers nearly cruised to the victory in set two, but they squandered a 24-20 lead, allowing the Wildcats a chance to steal it. However, Head Coach
Kip Yoshimura called a timeout to settle the team and they responded well, winning three straight points to hold on for the 29-27 win.
The Boxers started to find a rhythm in the third set by building an 8-2 advantage to force a Linfield timeout. The Wildcats replied by mounting yet another impressive comeback, leveling the score at 15-15. Set three would also go down to the wire but Pacific took another close set 25-22 to pick up the 2-1 lead in the match.
It was Linfield who took control of the fourth set but the Boxers showed resilience yet again, using back-to-back services aces from Pratt, to tie it up at 12-12. A timeout from the hosts was not enough to stop a thundering Boxers' run, and Pacific rolled to the 25-16 win to take the match.
