FOREST GROVE, Ore.- The Pacific University lacrosse team hosted Whitman for their Northwest Conference opener, but the Blues came away with the 20-10 victory.
It was the first game at Hanson Stadium for the Boxers and they saw some solid performances from Hyland Cullen-Musengo (Sophomore/Portland, OR), Vivian Mai (Senior/Portland, OR), and Mackenzie Grover (Senior/ Whitefish, MT). Cullen-Musengo netted a team-high five while dishing out an assist. Mai and Grover each enjoyed a multi-goal games from their midfield positions.
How It Happened
The Boxers dug themselves in a hole early down 2-0 after giving up two quick goals by the Blues. However, Grover scored her first goal of the season thanks to an excellent assist from Cullen-Musengo.
Heading into the second quarter, Pacific was down by four but looking more lively on the offensive end. Cullen-Musengo scored three goals in the second quarter while Mai would also add to the score with a goal of her own.
The Blues started the third quarter with a 12-5 lead. They were looking to put the game away, but the Boxers would respond with another goal from Cullen-Musengo. Katrina Boyd (Senior/San Jose, CA) kept the momentum alive by finding the back of the net, scoring her second goal of the season.
At the start of the fourth Pacific, looked to kick it in second gear to try and to make a comeback. Goals by the two seniors Mai and Grover would help the Boxers. Despite a late goal from Cullen-Musengo, Pacific was unable to mount the comeback. The Blues won thanks to their attacker Gracie Maulik and her seven goals.
