FOREST GROVE, Ore.- The Pacific University lacrosse team fell on Sunday to Whitworth despite their early lead by a score of 13-7.
Pacific (1-2, 0-2 NWC) fired 15 shots on the day with 11 of them on goal. The Boxers also converted three of four free position shots on the day.
Vivian Mai (Senior/Portland, OR) led the way for the Boxer offense with four goals on the day. She did not miss a shot on the day as all four of her shots found the back of the net.
How It Happened
The Boxers came out sharp when Mai scored a goal within the first minute of the game. The home team scored another goal when Mackenzie Grover (Senior/ Whitefish, MT) found the back of the net following a Pirate foul. Just over 30 seconds later Mai would make the lead 3-0 converting her second goal of the day. The Pirates would respond with three straight goals to even the game at three at the conclusion of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Mai converted another shot for a goal to give her three on the day following a great pass and assist by Katrina Boyd (Senior/San Jose, CA). The visitors from Spokane would respond with a goal of their own to tie the game at four apiece. With 36 seconds to go before the halftime break, Hyland Cullen-Musengo (Sophomore/Portland, OR) converted a shot for her first goal of the day to tie the game.

The visitors would take control of the game in the third quarter, Liliann Penfield would score back-to-back goals for the Pirates. Then their leading scorer for today's game Kenzie Hemman would score another to give the Pirates an 8-5 lead after three quarters.Â

Mai would open the fourth quarter with a quick goal for the hosts to bring them back within two. The Pirates would continue to pour it on scoring five straight unanswered goal. Sophia Alexander (Sophomore/ Santa Barbara, CA) scored her first goal of the season late in the game, however it would not be enough as the Pirates would close out the 13-7 victory.
