SPOKANE, Wash.- Pacific University lacrosse held a first half lead at Whitworth, but the Pirates used six goals in the second half to come away with the 11-8 victory.
Pacific falls to 2-10 overall as they still search for their first Northwest Conference win.
Whitworth's Rebecca Irwin led the way with three goals from her five shots.
Hyland Cullen-Musengo (Sophomore/Portland, OR) turned in another great performance with three goals and an assist on the afternoon.
Billie Merriam (Junior/Windsor, CO) also enjoyed a multi-goal game with two goals from her two shots.
How It Happened
Merriam opened the scoring for the Boxers by converting her free-position attempt.
Mackenzie Grover (Senior/Whitefish, MT) gave Pacific the lead with her goal early in the second quarter, her sixth of the season.
However, the Pirates would quickly regain the lead with two goals in less than two minutes. Cullen-Musengo answered with her first goal of the contest and second two more before the end of the half. The two teams would go into the break level at 5-5.
Whitworth surged into the lead with four straight goals to start the second half. Pacific couldn't seem to regain their footing, but goals from
Madison Boehringer (Freshman/Tigard, OR),
Sophia Alexander (Sophomore/Santa Barbara, CA), and Merriam kept the Boxers within striking distance.
Despite Pacific's best efforts, the Pirates notched two goals in the final period to improve to 3-5 in NWC play.
