Senior nights typically go two ways -- a distraction or a motivator.
For Pacific, it was clearly the latter, as the Boxers rolled to a 3-0 victory over Willamette Saturday night inside the Stoller Center.
"Our volleyball senior nights are special," Pacific volleyball coach
Kip Yoshimura said. "And they get bigger every year. I'm so happy for our seniors, not just for tonight, but all of the hard work they've been doing for the last four years on the court and obviously in the classroom. It's just pure joy. We played really well."
After honoring seniors
Alison Brown,
Emily Cheavtharn,
Rhylee Corpuz and
Claire Stipsits before the match, Pacific battled the Bearcats to a 27-25 victory in the first set. The Boxers won the set on an ace by Cheavtharn.
Pacific never trailed in the second set, racing out to a 9-2 lead and winning 25-14. Tied 8-8 in the third set, the Boxers won seven of the next eight points to take control and then cruise to another 25-14 win.
All four seniors contributed to the win. Stipsits had 11 kills, five aces and 13 digs. Cheavtharn recorded 29 assists, three blocks and two aces. Brown finished with 11 kills and eight digs. Corpuz delivered the match-winning ace.
Next, Pacific plays at Lewis & Clark next Friday before closing out the regular season Saturday at home against Puget Sound.
