With 10 saves,
Isabella De La Cruz kept Pacific in the game.
Â
But the Boxers couldn't net any goals to back up their freshman goalkeeper, falling 1-0 to Lewis & Clark on Sunday afternoon at Hanson Stadium.
Â
"She's really just stepped up and she's done a really good job," Pacific head coach
Chelsea Davis said of De La Cruz. "She's shown a lot of maturity. She kept us in the game. I'm incredibly happy with her. We've got a really good set of goalkeepers and they're competitive. We have three good goalkeepers. They're continually competing."
Â
After a scoreless first half, Carli Driskill scored the only goal of the match in the 74
th minute.
Â
The Boxers finished with five shots on goal, including two by freshman
Julia Fechter.
Â
"It's a learning opportunity for our team," Davis said. "We have a lot of young players and a lot of players that haven't particularly played on a Saturday and a Sunday.  Lewis & Clark was fresh. They didn't have a game yesterday, so I think that played into it a little bit.
Â
"We got caught playing a very physical, direct style of play that's just really not our game. We played into their press and we played into their intense direct style of play, which is not our style. It's a learning moment, recognizing what our strengths are and being consistent in that is really all I want for them to get out of it."
Â
Pacific was playing at home for the first time since Sept. 1 and don't return to Hanson Stadium again until Sept. 29 against Puget Sound.
Â
The Boxers travel to Washington to play Whitworth and Whitman next Saturday and Sunday.Â
