Pacific earned its first Northwest Conference win with authority Saturday night inside the Stoller Center.
Sweeping Whitman 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-16), the Boxers also snapped a four-match losing streak.
"I thought it was a good week of volleyball," Pacific head coach
Kip Yoshimura said. "Unfortunately, we didn't win last night. I thought we played well enough to and we could have won. But tonight was a good way to start the rest of the season with so many people playing well, overcoming some injuries and seeing some fresh faces out there ready to win."
The Boxers injury list continues to grow with
Sarah Hon,
LilaRose Everingham,
Logan Smith,
Danica Nelson and
Deborah Chun all missing Saturday's match.Â
Pacific was also coming off a thrilling five-set loss to Whitworth less than 24 hours before.
"They're all competitors," Yoshimura said. "They're all skilled. They all want to win and wouldn't have it any other way. I think that they've developed that culture."
Mara Murphy had 15 kills and 14 digs, while hitting .345 for the Boxers.
Alison Brown recorded 16 kills and hit .333.
Kayla Craft added 10 kills while hitting .556.Â
Emily Cheavtharn finished with 40 assists from her setter position.Â
Pacific outhit Whitman .352 to .168 over the three sets.
Trying to extend the match, the Blues led 14-11 in the third set. But Pacific answered with a 10-0 run to take control of the set and finish off Whitman.
"I thought we had really good composure," Yoshimura said. " We had some different faces out there and different rotations and combinations, but we played well as a team. Whitman's a good team and it's a nice win."
Next, the Boxers (5-8) play at Willamette (6-5) on Friday, Sept. 29. Â
